
The purpose of the course is to introduce the concepts of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and provide the necessary knowledge for performing a different kind of fluid flow simulations related to ship design. Students will study: CFD historical overview, physical and mathematical background of CFD, fluid properties and types, fluid flow classification and visualization, hydrodynamics governing equations, partial differential equations, discretization techniques, time integration methods, turbulence modelling, iterative methods, boundary layer, solvers, initial and boundary conditions, errors, convergence and uncertainty in CFD modelling.
